I thought this was a well written break-down of different shapes: https://www.saraheberle.com/understanding-the-various-shapes-of-trimmer-line/

It’s interesting that so many different companies have their own proprietary shape etc, but I can’t find any scientific research to back any of it up. Fascinating!

Robert subscribed then hit the bell. Be more like Robert. In all seriousness I was impressed by how quickly he came up with a well thought out, nuanced hypothesis without even a moment’s notice. Huge thanks to Robert. Also, a huge thanks to everyone who supports Smarter Every Day on Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/smartereveryday
    Thank you!

    • I was disappointed that you did not try the plastic blade option. I think it’s the best for durability cost and efficiency

    • My bell has been clicked for years

    • jh45 Oh yeah. Did you hear how fast Destin responded? He was thinking “8 hours a day, every day? Good lord, you’re much more of an expert on this than I am. Please have a seat.”

    • Félix Laverdière

SmarterEveryDay i’m working on a golf course and we use the same wire that robert use

    • SmarterEveryDay pay Robert for his help!! I’m sure you make gooopod dollars on this vid and he probably doesn’t make much weed eating! Help our Weed Eater Wizard out! ❤️

  2. Use echo black diamond and watch how straight it flies.

  3. Slow motion is amazing when people aren’t yelling / cheering while they’re filming with it.

  4. __( “ALIENS” )__

  5. It’s called Flakserica

  6. I’m the real weed eater.

  7. I call it Weed Wacker and I’m in Ohio

  8. My weed eater actually eats weeds and is way quieter than any “line trimmer”. He fertilizes too! Goat 🐐 powered goodness.

  9. I would like to say as a person who has a physics degree i concur with the star shape. Ive been using for about 10 years now. One other thing to consider, the pits in the line are similar to golf ball pits. People bought the pitted gof balls because they would fly better. Consider the movement of the lighter string with disrupted airflow right in front of the string. So roberts comment about moving faster would have 100% validity. I also agree with the cleaner cuts. Ever since i got the star trimmer i noticed the cleaner cuts as well. Which is why i have used only that shape for 10 years!

  10. Hey smarter– I have been a weedeater guy for my own service about 10 years, and I think it’s important to do this test on free standing blades because that is what you are cutting… the lack of tension is what the real working weedeaters are dealing with… so it’s important to know how each string does against free standing blades.
