Unbelievable! The Yellow Submarine Engine Starts Up After Being Under the Water for 30 Years!

Will this old engine that’s been under water for 3 decades run? After some cleanup you may be stunned… The whole crew sure was! Paul, Ben,Merlin, Hunter and Jimmy are truly exhilarated!

  2. Rust is oxidation. You need oxygen to rust. 150’ of cold fresh water with no air and some oil, will do a lot of rust prevention.

  6. Rust is iron oxide. It stands to reason oxygen needs to be present for iron to oxidate. If there’s no or very little oxygen present, it also stands to reason oxidation would be very limited or arrested. Water flowed freely around the outside the engine but not thru the engine. Just a hypothesis but worth considering.

  9. This engine was in fresh water and fresh water is not nearly as corrosive as salt. Another thing that will help protect submerged metal in fresh water is how cold the water was and how deep the metal was down. It takes oxygen to cause corrosion and cold deep water will delay corrosion. Another thing that will affect corrosion is how much plant life has sunk to the bottom. As the plants rot they will release oxygen and that O2 will accelerate corrosion. Since this engine was relatively deep in cooler water with little to no plant life surrounding it corrosion is going to be relatively little. There are vessels in that sank in the Great Lakes in deep low oxygen water that still look like new after being down for fifty years.
