Shipping Container Home Designed For Sustainable Family Living

In this weeks episode, we investigate this cute family home which has been built using transport containers. Named the South Coast Container House, this home has been sustainably built using four transport containers and has in addition been extended to enclose communal spaces. At 95 square meters (1000 square feet) this home is capable of snoozing 10 folks and has been divided into a main 85 square meter home, with an extra 15 square meter sleep-out made from a single 20ft transport container.

Homeowner Simon takes us through his home and shows us it is many features, from the fabulous exposed transport containers, though to the externally insulated partitions for maximal thermal performance and the homes many sustainable features.

Designed by architect Matt Elkan, this home has been designed with efficiency, performance and budget in mind. The concept was to use transport containers to create a marvelously functional, healthy family home for a reasonable budget.

    When people in Australia say they face windows north to gain passive solar it always throws me for a second, cause in the US it’s south, lol

  3. $350,000 AUD = $240,205.00 USD + the LAND. Very nice design but certainly not budget friendly for people looking for affordable living. Interesting though and good information on container living.
