Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, has passed away at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 7 decades.

The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed massive social change.

With her demise, her eldest son Charles, the previous Prince of Wales, will lead the nation in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth geographical regions.

In a declaration, Buckingham Palace stated: “The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.”
