Sha’Carri Richardson, a 21-year-old American track star, has tested positive for a chemical discovered in marijuana, putting her Olympic participation in doubt. Conversing exclusively to TODAY, Richardson cites the pressure of sporty contest, her biological mom’s recent death and more, but says, “I know what I did, I know what I am permitted to do … and I still made that decision.” Relating to the chance that she could still contribute in a relay event, she says, “If I am permitted to acquire that bliss, then I’m appreciative for it, but at this time, I’m going to just focus on myself.” She says: “I would like to state to my fans and my family and my sponsorship … I offer an apology,” adding, “Do not judge me: I’m human. I just happen to run a little swifter.” She adds: “I still have games in me … I will be back and ready to compete.”
