China coronavirus deaths and cases spike – BBC News

Some 242 deaths from the new coronavirus were filmed in the Chinese province of Hubei on Wednesday – the most deadly day of the outbreak.

There was in addition a big increase in the number of cases, with 14,840 folks diagnosed with Covid-19.

Hubei has began using a broader definition to diagnose folks – which accounts for most of the increase in cases.

China sacked two top officers in Hubei province hours after the new figures were unveiled.

Until Wednesday’s increases, the number of folks with the virus in Hubei, where the outbreak appeared, was stabilising.

But the new cases and deaths in the province have pushed the nationwide death toll above 1,350 – with nearly 60,000 infections in total.

  8. How dare you lie in our face! It’s not 2%! The mortality rate of an illness is not calculated dividing deaths over the number of cases as it is AN ONGOING process. Death is an outcome, recovery as well. So the formula should be
    (Death cases / Cases reached an outcome (recovery cases + death cases) ) x 100 = 20% (and it is up to 29% if considering Wuhan cases only).
