2022, in 7 minutes

Running up that hill with 8 billion folks.

In 2022, the world populace crossed 8 billion folks — and we felt the scale of this monumental milepost in hundreds of ways. After over a couple years of lockdowns and quarantines, folks anxiously restarted their lives, but there were undoubtedly growing aches. Weddings and travel shot up, but so did lost baggage and international inflation rates. Taylor Swift broke Ticketmaster. Cryptocurrency was headed in the direction of a terrific year until it truly, truly was not. 2022 tested the world populace as we tested out life in a new phase of the pandemic.

Russia broke in Ukraine, and help relief flooded into the war-torn country. Exiles were gladly received into encircling nations, and those who remained behind encouraged folks all over the world. International protests cried out for justness in Iran. Football teams stood up for migrant employees and the LGBTQ+ community at the World Cup. Cuba legalized same-sex marriage. The world iced over for a second when England’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away. And we all watched quite a bit of TikTok.

As we head into 2023, take a second to look back at the events that defined this year.
